Citizens in Tarkomia in the southern West Bank have faced electricity shortages due to insufficiency of the transformers and high levels of power theft. Some residents were connecting their houses directly to electricity lines in order to avoid paying for service. In response to a request for assistance, Wattan’s Citizen Journalist Network reported on the issue and demanded that the municipality deal with the situation. Two months later the municipality of Tarkomia began replacing old power transformers and imposing fines on electricity theft.
